About the Authors

Angela Bowden,a celebrated African Nova Scotian author, eloquently threads her heritage into poignant narratives. A descendant of Black Loyalists settling in Birchtown, NS, her family's journey spans to Guysborough ending in her birthplace New Glasgow, NS. Angela embraces the roles of advocate, activist, poet, and healer, leveraging her scholarly focus on Women and Gender Studies to amplify Black women's voices in rural settings. Her poetry collection, UnSpoken Truth: unmuted and unfiltered, deeply resonates within the African Nova Scotian diaspora. Angela promotes self-care and empowerment, evident in her acclaimed TEDx talk and her debut children's story, Black Boy, Black Boy, celebrating identity and resilience.


Ibeabuchi Ananaba (Ibe Ananaba) is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the impact of sociocultural complexities on contemporary living. He enjoys experimenting and practising as a painter, illustrator, muralist, art director, calligraphist, and designer. With local and international awards, Ibe’s art has been used as a case study for project theses by various university scholars across Nigeria. Listed in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Collections, he has had numerous local and international art exhibitions, and his works have been prominently featured in notable international publications. Ibe is a member of the Black Artist Network of Nova Scotia and a Visual Arts Nova Scotia member.
