About the Authors

Gloria Chaim, MSW, RSW Deputy Clinical Director, Child, Youth & Family Program is currently serving as project manager for the Pathways to Healthy Families Program at the Jean Tweed Centre, on a secondment from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, where she was clinical director, Assessment and General Treatment Program and Addiction Treatment Program for Special Populations. Gloria has worked in the substance use treatment field for over 20 years and has prior experience in community mental health settings. She has focused on clinical work and research, as well as training and education, as they relate to her areas of special interest - primarily youth, families and couples. She is particularly interested in integrating research, training and education to facilitate program development that will meet the needs of special population groups that are frequently underserved.


Sharon Armstrong, PhD, C.Psych., is a clinical psychologist in private practice. Sharon obtained a post-graduate fellowship with Family Services at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and later worked as a psychologist and as Acting Clinic Head of Rainbow Services at CAMH. Sharon is on contract as faculty at York University, where she teaches clinical and counselling theory and skills, and behaviour modification and therapy.

Joanne Shenfeld received her Masters of Social Work from the University of Toronto in 1986. She has been with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) for 20 years. Joanne has extensive clinical experience working in addictions with individuals, couples, families and groups. She has been involved in research and program development, as well as training and education through CAMH. Currently, Joanne is the Manager for the Family Service in the Addiction Program and Youth Addiction and Concurrent Disorders Service in the Child, Youth and Family Program. Recent projects include a treatment manual on family support and addiction, chapters on youth and family interventions and a study and treatment manual on brief couples therapy. Joanne is a Registered Social Worker with OCSWSSW; an Adjunct Lecturer Factor – Inwentash, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto; and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.
