An Atlantic Journey by Rowboat

by Tori Holmes & Paul Gleeson

Description

Acting on self-assured determination and an ever-growing sense of adventure, Tori Holmes, a 21-year-old from Alberta, Canada, and Paul Gleeson, a 29-year-old financial advisor from Limerick, Ireland, embraced the dream of rowing a tiny boat across the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean in the 2005/06 Trans-Atlantic Race. Of course, neither of the young adventurers knew how to row.

In February 2006, they completed their epic journey after 86 days of huge seas, violent storms, terrifying capsizes, unbearable thirst, bizarre hallucinations and sleep deprivation.

Part inspirational adventure story, part travelogue and part romance, Crossing the Swell is an honest and intimate portrayal of what it takes to truly engage in the many adventures that life has to offer.

About the Authors
Tori Holmes is a nutritionist, a wellness entrepreneur, an author, and the co-founder of Nectar Juicery in Vancouver. In her early twenties, her spirit of adventure and her passion for life carried her through a grueling trip across the Atlantic in a 24-foot rowboat, as well as a very different but equally challenging adventure of facing a breast cancer diagnosis. Both experiences have made her turn to alternative medicine traditions from around the world, and she found her way back to wellness by utilizing the power of self-care beyond sick care. She is now a passionate advocate for the importance of water and hydration, alternative ingredients, and the power of our own bodies on the path to wellness. Today, she is a product developer and an ambassador for startup ventures in plant medicine.

Paul Gleeson hails from Limerick, Ireland, and studied business. After time as a financial advisor, he craved adventure and packed his bags to go travelling with a group of friends.
