The 15 lessons in this module introduce students to static and current electricity and electricity from chemical sources. Students investigate parallel and series circuits, conductors, insulators, and switches ¾ and design and construct their own electrical devices based on their learning. As well, students explore electromagnetism, motors, generators, and renewable and non-renewable sources of electricity. Students also investigate the environmental impact of human consumption and conservation of electrical energy. Also included: • Materials lists; • Activity descriptions; • Questioning techniques; • Activity centre and extension ideas; • Assessment suggestions; and • Activity sheets and visuals The module offers a detailed introduction to the Hands-On Science program (guiding principles, implementation guidelines, an overview of the skills that young students use and develop during scientific inquiry), a list of children's books and websites related to the science topics introduced, and a classroom assessment plan with record-keeping templates.
