Gladys Sage escaped the backwoods of Northern Ontario, leaving behind the body of her stepfather. Detective James Kelly is hired to find her, and his search for Gladdy becomes a passion that will affect the Kelly family for generations.
Part mystery, part love story and part family drama with a hint of Boardwalk Empire, this novel was gut wrenching, shocking, and intensely compelling.
This story is as compelling as it is blood-chilling. As Nawal struggles with the reality that her son may be a terrorist, she reads the story of her grandmother, who struggled with her own beliefs. Not knowing where to turn or who to trust, both women’s stories entwine and bring the past and the present together. I truly enjoyed this book. Buy it, read it!
If you have to pick one book to read, particularly historical fiction, make it Gladdy’s Wake. It’s one of my favourite books so far this year.
