Preaching The Big Questions

Doctrine Isn't Dusty

by Catherine Faith MacLean & John H. Young

tagged: preaching, pastoral resources
Description

What is the meaning of grace, of sin, of the sacraments? How are we to understand our dependence on God or relate to the person of Jesus? What roles do the Bible and the church play in our life of faith? Talking about theology needn't be boring or stuffy, the authors argue. Rather, it is exhilarating to explore the why of our faith. Each of 13 key doctrines is explored theologically, scripturally, in pastoral application, and in a sample sermon.

About the Authors

Catherine Faith MacLean

The Rev. Dr. Catherine Faith MacLean is a passionate preacher and pastoral minister. She was ordained in 1985 by Maritime Conference, and has served United Churches in Toronto, the Maritimes, Yellowknife, the Rockies, and Edmonton. Catherine has profound hope in God’s action through congregational life. Having a hand in writing A Song of Faith and being the evangelist at Berwick Camp were particular joys for her. She received her education for ministry from Harvard and McCormick. Her doctorate is in preaching.

John H. Young is an ordained United Church minister who currently serves as the Interim Principal of Emmanuel College in Toronto, Ontario.  Previous to this role he served as the Executive Minister of Theological Leadership in the General Council Office. He has written a number of book chapters and is the co-author, with the Rev.
