Carolyn Jones teaches high school English and Spanish in Port Coquitlam. She lives in the Strathcona neighbourhood of East Vancouver with her beloved teddy bear, Theodora. Theodora Bear was written to entertain Carolyn's goddaughters, Emma and Sarah. They always want to hear about Theodora's latest adventures, and particularly enjoy stories in which the bear outsmarts the girl she lives with. Carolyn Jones was born in Havana, Cuba, and has lived there, in New York City, Philadelphia, Toronto and Vancouver. Theodora Bear is her first book.

"Why am I the only one who ever makes the bed?" Harriet said. Theodora looked up. "Because you're the only one with thumbs," she said. "See?" She held out her paws. "Bears don't have thumbs. So it's hard for us to do jobs like that." "Penguins don't have thumbs either," Vera said. She held out one orange flipper for Harriet to see. "Nor do sheep," Lambie said. "Cats don't have thumbs either," Tiger said. "But that's not why we don't make beds."
