"Hey, Jack! Are you going to see the little bird hatch?"
"That's what I wanted to do, but my car broke down."
"No problem. Hop on my motorcycle."
"You're going, too?"
"Of course!"
"Look! Everyone's going..."
"It's all anyone is talking about!"
Bruno gobbled up Mom's macaroni. It tasted so good! Then he saw something in the bottom of the bowl. Something was hidden in the cheese. "Ah!" he screamed. "There's green in my macaroni!"
"It's just zucchini," Mom said. "Just a tiny little bit."
"It's green!" Bruno put down his spoon. He wasn't hungry anymore.
Jeffrey looked at the blank page. It glared back. His ideas came slowly, and he found himself sketching a round-bellied, long-armed sloth. "Focus on the words," Jeffrey muttered to himself. "Just forget about the words," whispered a voice. Jeffrey looked around, his eyes wide. "Who said that?"
Winnie barked. Kelly let her go. The dog scampered out from under the blanket. Kelly pushed it away in time to see Winnie run out the door.
Good. She was going to attack the outlaw. Kelly jumped to her feet. She'd help her. Together, they'd send the robber flying. She ran after Winnie.
At first, she thought Winnie didn't need her help. The red-haired outlaw lay flat on his back in a patch of clover. Winnie stood on his stomach.
"Yay, Winnie!" Kelly shouted.
Then she saw that Winnie's tail was wagging. She was licking the outlaw's face. The outlaw was laughing.
One day, Johnny stuck his nose in his grandpa's closet and found a bottle. It was made of dark green glass. A sandy cork was plugged in the top. The sand was as hard as cement. Johnny took the bottle to the sunroom where his grandpa was snoozing. He jumped on the sofa. "What's in the bottle?" he demanded. "Well now, that's a puzzle," his grandpa said. "I never did figure that out." Johnny held the bottle up to the sun. A shadow lurked inside the green glass. There was something inside for sure.
